The on line humidity and other compound analyser Spectra-Quad from Thermo Electron Corporation, offers precise continuous information in real time of the concentration of essential contents of the product.
Operation theory:
The most advanced NIR (close-up infra red) technique.
Spectra-Quad uses a determination technique based on absorbing the close-up infra red light (NIR). This is a method with no contact, non destructive and without risks. The chemical links absorb the NIR light in well defined wavelengths.
-The O-H links of water and Alcohols.
-The C-H links of oils, greases, adhesives and plastics.
-The N-H unions in proteins, ammonia and amina.
The absorption intensity for one determined wavelength is proportional to the quantity of the component in the material.
A halogen quartz source emits NIR light. The light from the source pases through a rotary wheel with various filters. The filters on the wheel only let through a very narrow part of the NIR wavelengths.
The wheel has at least two filters. One filter lets through the wavelengths that the sample absorbs best. The other filter is for reference and lets through a narrow range of the wavelengths that the sample did not absorb. The reference wavelength offers a base value to determine the sample. This stabilizes the measurement against internal changes of the sensors components, as well as external changes of the sensor.
The light goes through the filter wheel and is directed to the sample. The sample absorbs some light and reflects the rest. The reflected light is picked up and sent to a detector. The signal of the detector is processed to produce a reading proportional to the concentration of the component.
The Thermo Spectra-Quad sensors use an exclusive Quadra-Beam technology, patented and tested in the sector, as well stabilises the instrument against internal changes to the sensor which means more stable measurements throughout time.
